Education Ministry

The Education Ministry works to bring together professional educators within the congregation and form collaborative partnerships with the various ministries  and programs at the church which seek to educate or serve our children, youth and young adult populations through teaching and/or counseling,
such as MOCCA, Vacation Bible School, Sunday Church school, etc.
Adult Literacy Ministry
Available to individuals who wish to improve their reading, writing, and/or comprehension skills in a confidential manner. We are also seeking people who are interested in becoming tutors. Sessions provided are one-on-one for confidentiality.
Ministry of College and Career Alliance (MOCCA)
Serves youth who are Grace members and/or persons active in the ministries of Grace Baptist Church who are entering or attending college or post-secondary career institutions or schools. MOCCA scholars are provided with mentors, monetary awards and care packages; and presenting workshops designed to address issues related to schooling and careers.
Grace Academic & Tutoring Services
Provides several types of academic support services to students to help them improve academically. From one-on-one tutoring in various subjects (Math, English, Reading, etc. to standardized test preparatory classes (PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc.), we service students K-12. Additionally, Grace is an approved New York State Supplemental Education Support (SES) service provider. We provide academic support services that are aligned with course standards responding to educational deficits of Mount Vernon students. All tutors that are part of the SES program are trained and certified.
Scholarship Ministry
Works to raise book scholarship funds to support college students (Grace members and non-Grace members) who are active in Grace Baptist ministries.
Grace CDF Freedom Summer
A summer and after-school enrichment program that improves literacy, focuses on science, technology, engineering and math, dropout prevention, increases self-esteem, and generates more positive attitudes toward learning. Children are taught using a model curriculum that supports children and families around five essential components:
1. High quality academic enrichment.
2. Parent and family involvement.
3. Civic engagement and social action.
4. Intergenerational leadership development.
5. Nutrition, health, and mental health.
Youth Tutoring Ministry
Put in place to academically assist youth (ages 5-18 years old) of Grace Baptist Church and the surrounding Mount Vernon community to foster self-confidence and ensure success and to establish a partnership between tutor, student, and parent.
